Spirit Security Services abides by the following standards and has achieved the following certifications:

Insurance Policies

Spirit has taken out the necessary insurances to meet the minimum industry requirements.  In addition to the legal expertise of our management team,we also have the added protection of 24 hour maritime legal cover. 

  • Employers Liability – up to USD 15 million
  • Public Liability – up to USD 6 million
  • Products Liability – up to USD 6 million
  • Professional Indemnity – up to USD 5 million

Firearms Licenses

Although we insist that firearms are always used as a last resort, Spirit has taken the unique approach to carefully select the firearms issued to our security teams.  All of our firearms are high powered, semi-automatic weapons with a minimum effective range of 500 metres.  Our firearms are legally purchased, owned and exported.  Spirit has undergone stringent vetting procedures to be granted the following licenses. 

  • UK Open General Trade Control License (Maritime Anti-piracy) (OGTCL)
  • UK Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD)
  • UK Standard Individual Export License (SIEL)
  • End User Certification (EUC) for all firearms


Spirit’s personnel are amongst the best in the industry.  Our operatives are almost exclusively recruited from the Royal Marines Commandos and each individual must further undergo our stringent screening and selection procedure.  As a minimum, all of our personnel will be qualified in the following: 

  • UK Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checked
  • Military Discharge Papers checked
  • STCW 95 (4 elements)
  • ISPS Ship Security Officer (SSO)
  • ENG 1 Medical
  • UK Seaman’s Discharge Book
  • Pre-deployment Training Package:  Rules for the Use of Force (RUF), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Best Management Practice
